Noosa has welcomed its first homebrew store as Scott Hooper launched The Brew Store on Bartlett Street in Noosaville. Hooper’s journey into homebrewing began in 2013 when he received a Keggerator fridge as a gift, propelling him into the world of brewing with a headfirst dive into all-grain brewing, skipping the introductory steps with can kits.
Hooper, now equipped with a three-vessel system, discovered a lack of nearby homebrew supply shops within a 40-50km radius of his residence, prompting him to fill this gap by expanding a small CO2 business to cater to the Sunshine Coast community, connecting with over 70 homebrewers in a year.
The Brew Store’s offerings include equipment, grain in various pack sizes, and hops. Currently, the store is operated by Hooper with some assistance from his mother, with plans to establish a homebrewers club. Hooper’s vision for the store is to provide a comprehensive range of hardware and brewing essentials to meet the needs of the local brewing community.
Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the rise of homebrewing as a popular hobby has been notable, with many individuals turning to brewing as a creative and rewarding indoor activity. Hooper’s focus has shifted towards launching an online store to cater to the increased demand and interest in homebrewing.
The Sunshine Coast has witnessed a significant growth in craft brewing, with notable establishments like Boiling Pot, Land & Sea, and Heads of Noosa making their mark in the region, reflecting a broader trend of craft beer expansion and innovation.
